Long Island Psychological Practice offers testing to address the following:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders and Developmental Delays

  • Intellectual Disabilities

  • Learning Disabilities

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

  • Giftedness Testing

  • Guardianship Interviews

An evaluation with us starts with an initial consultation, where we will discuss the concerns you have regarding your child as well as a brief overview of current behaviors and symptoms.  When we meet, we will gather information about an individual's development, history of the presenting concerns, detailed educational history, and any other pertinent information relevant to helping us understand your child and their strengths and weaknesses.  Based our discussion, we will administer battery of assessments that reflect your unique concerns.  This will include direct assessment of the individual, interviews with the parent or guardian, as well as the possibility of gathering information from school personnel with your permission. Possible areas or domains of testing may include:

  • Cognitive Abilities

  • Academic Achievement

  • Attention/Executive Functioning

  • Adaptive Functioning

  • Behavioral Functioning

  • Social/Emotional Functioning

  • ADOS-2/CARS-2 to determine if an individual meets criteria for an Autism Spectrum Disorder

After the assessment has been completed, we will compile all relevant data and information collected over the course of our time together. This data will be analyzed to determine if an individual meets criteria for a specific diagnosis and to determine a pattern of strengths and weaknesses.  We will meet for an informing conference to review the results of testing. At the informing conference, we will discuss what the results mean in terms of an individual's strengths and weaknesses, how results may inform education, services that may benefit the individual to strengthen their areas of needs, and possible resources available to you and your family.

We also conduct guardianship interviews for individual's whose parent or guardian are seeking to obtain guardianship of their child.  This process looks slightly different.  As previously mentioned we will briefly discuss your concerns and reasons for seeking guardianship.  You will be asked to provide the psychologist conducting the interview with previous evaluations, IEP's, and other reports documenting the history of the intellectual or developmental delay.  This in combination with interview with the parent and child will be used to fill out the necessary affidavit needed for court proceedings. This appointment typically lasts between 45 minutes to an hour.

We invite you to contact us at your convenience regarding any questions or inquiries about our services, types of testing, specific testing materials utilized, or to make an appointment.
